Where to Put a Top Caption on a Vertical Video

Use the Bad Times caption preview to keep text easy to read and away from your pet’s eyes or face in a vertical clip.

Top text has to do two jobs in a vertical reaction clip. It gives the audience a setup and leaves the eyes visible for the reaction. Preview it on the actual template before you finish.

Leave space when you choose the photo

Look for a little room above the ears or hair. A tight portrait may put the eyes close to the text. If the subject already touches the top of the photo, try another image with a slightly wider crop.

Write for a phone screen

Try “When the treats are for guests” in place of a sentence with several clauses. Read it once while looking at the face. The Bad Times top caption field allows up to 90 characters. A shorter line usually gives the frame more breathing room. Check the outline against a bright area and a dark area of the example.

Preview before and after sharing

Look for the caption on a phone at normal size. After downloading, play the file once before posting. If you add platform stickers or on-screen text, use the destination's preview to see whether anything covers the face or caption. For quick starting lines, browse the 12 caption ideas.
